Illinois State Requirements for Health Care Providers Licensed in IllinoisCME RequirementsPhysicians in Illinois must earn 150 hours of continuing medical education in a three-year licensure period. Licenses are renewed through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation. Physicians must complete CME in the following topic areas as part of their 150 hours of continuing medical education in a three-year licensure period. The special requirements below count towards the 150 hours of continuing education that is required for licensure renewal.
To help meet the needs of licensed healthcare workers, IAFP has a library of live and on-demand CME available to meet the state requirements. Current courses include:All IAFP on-demand courses can be found online at the IAFP Education Library Opioid Safe Prescribing Professionals with an Illinois Controlled Substance License must complete 3 hours of continuing education on Safe Opioid Prescribing.
Sexual Harassment Prevention Every licensed professional in Illinois must complete one hour of continuing education in Sexual Harassment Prevention. IAFP Course: Sexual Harassment Prevention in Health Care Recognizing Implicit Bias in Healthcare All healthcare professionals with an Illinois license must complete one hour of continuing education in recognizing implicit bias in healthcare. IAFP Course: Health (Equity) in All Policies Recognizing Dementia Every licensed healthcare professional with direct interaction with adults ages 26 or older must complete one hour of continuing education in the diagnosis, treatment and care of individuals with Alzheimer’s or other dementias. IAFP Course: Early Detection and Treatment of Alzheimer’s Disease and Dementia Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse Physicians who treat children must complete one hour of continuing education in identifying and reporting child abuse every six years.
