Family Health Foundation of Illinois – Required Minimum Distribution
One of the highlights of the Foundation’s vision is to encourage philanthropic endeavors that will support the growth of family medicine in Illinois. Former IAFP President & Foundation Chair Ed Blumen, MD, MBA, FAAFP, was the first person to implement the RMD as a donation to the Family Health Foundation of Illinois. When asked why he and his wife made the decision to support the foundation, Dr. Blumen said, “Family Medicine has supported our family throughout my entire career. As I entered my senior years of practice we wanted to help the future of my chosen profession by donating to the IAFP Foundation.” READ MORE
Summer Externship Shines Through COVID-19
Many of IAFP’s plans and events were casualties of the COVID pandemic restrictions. But, with a little patience, the Family Health Foundation of Illinois Summer Externship Experience found flexibility and proceeded as “mostly planned.” Thanks to a matching grant from the AAFP Foundation Summer Externship Program, the Illinois Foundation was able to offer one FQHC externship experience. But first, IAFP needed to recruit a new preceptor for 2020, as current preceptors were unable to host an outside student this year. Christina Wells, MD from Mile Square Health Center stepped up to volunteer. She’s a member of the IAFP’s FPs in FQHCs Member Interest Group and proved to be just the FP for the job. READ MORE
Patient Education Infographics
In 2020 The Family Health Foundation of Illinois developed two patient education infographics. The first, 5 Truths Your Doctor Wants You to Know About Vaccines, provides patients with positive vaccine messaging. The second, 5 Healthy Habits Your Doctor Wants You to Do to Live a Better Lifestyle, encourages patients to make subtle changes in their diet and lifestyle to improve their overall health. These resources may be found on our website and distributed to your patients!
