What is IAFP?

The Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP) is a professional medical society dedicated to maintaining high standards of family medicine representing 4,300 family physicians, residents and medical students.

IAFP provides members with practice-based support, education, government relations and public relations services. We advocate for family physicians and their patients while working to recruit more family physicians to care for patients across Illinois.

What is a Family Physician?

Family Physician: The family physician is a physician who is educated and trained in family medicine - a broadly encompassing medical specialty.

Family physicians provide continuing and comprehensive medical care, health maintenance and preventive services to each member of the family regardless of sex, age or type of problem. These specialists are best qualified to serve as each patient's advocate in all health-related matters, including the appropriate use of consultants, health services and community resources.
