Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) Externship Experience

The student extern will gain experience in medical administration, some education specific to the Community Health Center movement and how FQHCs operate and play a vital role in the community.  Students will gain some clinical experience, with a focus on primary care integration of services (Medical, Behavioral Health, and Dental).   Some clinical shadowing of a provider will be offered.   The goals of the externship are to foster leadership, interest in systems of care for underserved populations, and an introduction to primary care medicine.

Dates, hours and expectations
This externship is scheduled for July 6-31, but is flexible and can be adjusted by agreement with the selected student and the lead preceptor. 
Some of work will be self-directed. 
Student will be added to the IAFP FPs in FQHCs member interest group.  

This externship is at UI-Mile Square Health Center South Shore location with lead preceptor Christina Wells, MD.  Dr. Wells is the medical director for the site and a member of the IAFP's FPs in FQHCs Member Interest Group.  We encourage you to learn more about the clinic before you apply, using the link for UI-Mile Square above.
