Bechara Choucair, MD, receives Pfizer Teacher Development Award

Bechara Choucair, M.D., part-time teacher of family medicine at the Department of Family Medicine at Northwestern University received the Pfizer Teacher Development Award at a January 23 reception hosted by Russ Robertson, M.D., chair of the department of family medicine.

Sally Johnson, M.D., third year resident at the Northwestern University family medicine residency at Glenbrook Hospital lauded Dr. Choucair in her nomination letter.  She noted that he inspired her to serve those in poverty.

Dr. Choucair is one of 15 recipients nationwide to receive the $1,500 scholarship to attend an educational opportunity of his choice.  Dr. Choucair was thinking he would use the scholarship to attend the annual meeting of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine.   The goal of the scholarship is to recognize and support community-based family physicians who are part-time teachers of family medicine.

Dr. Choucair was recently named the vice chair for community medicine at the Northwestern Family Medicine Department.  His clinical work is done at the Heartland International Health Center, a federally qualified community health center in Chicago,  http://www.heartlandalliance.org/aboutus/partners_hho.html
