CALL FOR NOMINATIONS – MEDIA AWARD

 The IAFP Media Award is presented to the Illinois journalist whose dedication to healthcare coverage provides a valuable service to the audience.  Editors, news directors, colleagues, physicians and the general public are invited to nominate healthcare journalists.  Self nominations are also accepted.  Entrants may work in print, radio, television or Internet media.  Stephanie Sievers from Small Newspaper Group received the 2007 Media Award   

Description

The IAFP Media Award seeks to recognize an Illinois journalist whose work educates the community on health care issues consistent with the values of family medicine.  Nominees should include at least one of the following themes in their work

-          continuity of care

-          preventive health care (lifestyle, screenings, education)

-          access to care

-          importance of family physicians in keeping patients healthy

-          patient safety

-          future of health care delivery

 

Print and electronic media will be judged together.  Only public media will be considered.  Submissions should specifically include family physician input or family medicine’s contributions to the community or the issue.  

Nominees will be judged on the following criteria:

-          relevance of the topic

-          input from variety of credible sources

-          accuracy

-          quality of the writing/story telling

-          dedication to the overall health of the audience (news that  a wide audience can use and benefit from)  

To nominate a print article, please send a copy with your form.  Once nominated, the journalist will be contacted and invited to submit additional work for consideration.   A form for submitting nominations is enclosed.  Self nominations are encouraged.

To complete your nomination:

·         If you have a print article you wish to nominate, please include an original or high quality photo copy. 

·         If your nominee is a radio host, send in his/her name, radio station and a station phone number or mailing address so IAFP can contact him/her.

·         If your nominee is a television personality, send in his/her name and title (medical reporter, weekend anchor, morning show anchor, etc), the name of the station (WABC-TV, KXYZ-TV), and a phone number so IAFP may contact that person directly.  If you enjoyed a particular segment, please include the topic that the story covered.

·         Fill out the form below and send to IAFP by May 31, 2008 or contact Ginnie Flynn for assistance.
