State Government Relations
The Governor signed SB 2012 and SB 2546 (among other bills) this week. These two were bills that the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians supported during the 2008 Spring Session.

SB 2012 creates the Chronic Care Task Force. IAFP has already attended a meeting hosted by the Illinois Public Health Association discussing the prevalence of chronic diseases and what can be accomplished through prevention and the creation of this task force legislation.

SB 2546 restricts youth access to cigarettes by prohibiting placing cigarettes in any vending machine with other products (such as food or candy) and also prohibits selling cigarettes in any packaging other than the manufacturer’s packaging of 20 cigarettes with the required Surgeon General’s warning – to prevent the sale of single, or small quantities of cigarettes.
