The IAFP will operate on this schedule through August 29th. State Government Relations **SENATE PRESIDENT JONES TO STEP DOWN The entire state is abuzz with the news that Senate President Emil Jones will retire at the end of his term in January. He has been in the state legislature since 1972 and has led the Senate as its president since 2003. The surprise announcement has led to a flurry of activity among Senate democrats eager to take his place in leadership. Some who have quickly thrown their hat into the ring include Senators John Cullerton (Chicago), Terry Link (Waukegan), Jeff Schoenberg (Evanston) and Rickey Hendon (Chicago). So far political insiders and analysts believe the contest is wide open and will be something to watch as the players jockey for position. Meanwhile the General Assembly did convene during week of August 11 for a special session, where the Senate considered and voted to reject their scheduled pay raises. The House had voted to reject their pay raises months ago, but Senate President Jones had not called the measure for a vote in the Senate, putting some senators in the bad position of accepting a pay raise while so many voters are struggling in the current economy. **EYE EXAM WAIVER FORM Complaints continue to mount regarding the new state law requiring eye exams for children entering kindergarten. Here's a link to the Illinois Eye Exam Waiver form – physicians can print it out for parents who are unable to afford or gain access to the newly required eye-exam for children entering kindergarten. http://www.gkschools.org/nurse/eye_exam_waiver.pdf Federal Government Relations IAFP MAKES ANOTHER FamMedPAC SPECIAL DELIVERY Executive vice president Vincent D.
