May 1 Deadline: Join a Member Interest Group Member Interest Groups (MIG) provide an avenue for IAFP members across all levels (active, life, resident and student) to connect and collaborate on a topic of interest or situation of common ground. IAFP has three current MIGs: Women in Leadership, FPs in FQHCs and Direct Primary Care. We have four proposed/developing MIGs looking for members. Learn more and join the one(s) that fit your interests! The deadline to apply for the developing MIGs or propose a new group is May 1. Deadline May 1: Spring into Action registration - May 9 or 11 IAFP provides the education and the training - along with breakfast and lunch! Then everyone walks over to the Statehouse to meet with their state senator and representative about the issues most important to you. Everyone gets home in time for dinner! Register by May 1. May 10th Spring into Action is completely filled and no more registrations can be made for May 10. Member Input to the Board- Deadline May 10 The IAFP Board of Directors meets four times this year. They met February 17 and will meet again on May 17, August 5 and October 5. How can you provide timely input so that the board can respond to member issues in a more proactive way? Learn more on our new process for year-round member input.. The FDA finally issued an initial set of rules in 2016, including requiring these products to undergo a health and safety review. State Update The General Assembly returns from its Spring Break next week and faces 3rd reading deadlines in both chambers. House bills that pass the House chamber by April 28th will move to the Senate and likewise, Senate bills that pass the Senate will move to the House. Wednesday, May 10, 2017 from 11:30 am - 4:30 pm (lunch included) Central Illinois members: This notice reminds providers that effective December 1, 2016, mandatory managed care enrollment in the Southern Central Illinois counties was suspended for the Family Health Plan (FHP) Population. It also informs providers that effective May 1, 2017 Molina Healthcare of Illinois (Molina) will no longer be a Medicaid Managed Care health plan option for FHP members in the following Southern Central Illinois counties: Christian, Logan, Macon, Menard, Piatt and Sangamon. West Suburban hospital family physicians were included in April 4 Chicago Tribune and Daily Southtown articles on a new Chicago West Side Task Force that meets to discuss community concerns. Harald Lausen, DO was featured in an April 8 State Journal-Register article updating the Medical Marijuana pilot program. SIU physicians are now able to evaluate patients and certify them for the pilot program if they meet the qualifying conditions. Brian Chicoine, MD was included in an April 10 Chicago Tribune story on the history of the Adult Down Syndrome Center at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital. John Miller, MD was quoted in the April 10 Peoria Journal Star story on UnityPoint health care implementing patient surveys and publishing the results for public use. SIU Quincy family medicine will hit the road with a new high-tech mobile health clinic coming soon. The new wheels were featured in the April 15 Quincy Herald-Whig. Janet Albers, MD and Harald Lausen, DO were featured in an April 15 State Journal Register story chronicling Benefits of the Affordable Care Act and concerns for patients in the Central Illinois region if the law were repealed. Dr. Albers appears again in an April 20 Illinois Times article detailing the many new services that SIU Center for Family Medicine offers especially to patients who were previously uninsured, with the additional funds possible through Medicaid expansion and other federal funding sources, such as legal assistance, behavioral health, nutrition counselling and diabetes management.
