Illinois Academy of Family Physicians Strategic
Plan
Mission Statement: To promote
excellence in the health and well-being of the people of Illinois
through support and education of family physicians and the families
and communities they serve.
Intent: The strategic plan will
advance IAFP's mission and core values.
Membership

Serve as the "medical home" for family
physicians and family medicine

Offer members the benefits of advocacy and
representation in government relations and public relations

Apprise members of IAFP programming through
numerous channels of communication

Ensure IAFP's continuing medical education
program remains a viable option for members to maintain their
state license to practice and to recertify for their boards

Work with other organizations in Illinois
healthcare to improve quality, ensure patient safety and the
public health
Communications

Enable multiple levels of communication in
different modes to reach the greatest number of members

Ensure one non-electronic communication to reach
all members

Streamline electronic communications

Upgrade web/home page for optimal use by members
and public

Offer member benefits of advocacy and
representation in government relations and public relations

Apprise members of IAFP programming through
numerous channels of communication
Students/Residents

Promote family medicine for our future

Strengthen relations with Family Medicine
Interest Groups and Residency programs

Support the Summer Externship Program

Recruit positive mentors and preceptors for
students and residents in order to grow new leaders for IAFP
leadership succession
Fiscal Affairs

Share the fiscal responsibility proportionally
with the Board of Directors, membership-at-large, and staff

Keep IAFP financially strong
Government Relations

Advocate on behalf of family medicine and its
strengths

Promote an optimum work environment

Increase government relations presence to
exchange information about medical practice and public policy

Continue to be patient advocates and promote a
comprehensive public health agenda for overall health
improvement in IL
Public Relations

Establish IAFP as a separate voice in the
medical community

Optimize IAFP communications forums to keep
leadership and general membership appraised of IAFP PR
activities and opportunities

Maintain a current list of "on-call"
member spokespersons for general inquires on www.iafp.com

Promote Family Medicine in the community (health
fairs, career fairs, etc.) and through Letters to the Editor on
community issues.
CME
-
Continue IAFP exposure & cooperation with
AAFP, PriMed, and other primary care education companies in the
IL marketplace.

Support and encourage the use of family
physician presenters and AAFP credit to organizers of large
regional CME meetings (i.e. PriMed)
-
Collaborate with other Illinois based health
associations (ICAAP, IFQHC, etc) & their educational
activities which fit within our mission
-
Choose CME topic priorities that are the main
concern in family medicine based on surveys done by AAFP and the
IAFP
Annual Meeting
-
Increase overall attendance by marketing to each
sector of membership and encouragement from all sectors of the
volunteer leadership
-
Schedule and maintain programming for optimal
benefits to members appealing to the needs and time constraints
and calendars of the general membership.
