adolescents. The TIPS website includes the most recent data related to tobacco
use and treatment, educational materials, and state and local control data and
programs.

The Tobacco Control section of the American
Lung Association (ALA) website is an excellent resource for parents who smoke
and who are thinking about quitting. The ALA website provides self-help manuals
and an online tobacco-use treatment program, as well as links to your local Lung
Association.
QuitNet www.quitnet.com QuitNet
is a resource of interactive tools designed to help tobacco-users kick the
habit. The online resources include a Quit Date Wizard which tracks the
quit effort and the Q-gadget which tabulates the cost of tobacco. QuitNet
also provides quitting guides, a pharmaceutical guide, online chat forums, and
an expert helpline.
Tar Wars www.tarwars.org
Tar Wars is a tobacco-free education program and
poster contest supported by the American Academy of Family Physicians and
reaches approximately 400,000 fourth- and fifth-grade students annually. This
site explains how the program works and how to get involved. You can join the
Illinois Tar Wars program already at work in over 330 school across the state.

National Spit Tobacco Education Project (NSTEP) www.nstep.org
NSTEP was founded in 1994 as an effort to educate
the American public about the dangers of spit tobacco. This website provides
information on the dangers of using spit tobacco, as well as some tools to help
teens quit. The fact sheets found on this site may be useful for physicians when
explaining the dangers of spit tobacco to their patients.
