Tar Wars - Tar Wars provides an opportunity for health care providers, school personnel, and community members to work in the community and in the classroom to fight youth tobacco use.

IAFP and ICAAP share their “Adolescent Tobacco Use – Prevention
and Cessation: Strategies for Primary Care Providers,” CME program with a
federal panel from the Interagency Subcommittee on Tobacco Use Cessation. The
subcommittee convened hearings in Washington, D.C., Denver, and Chicago to hear
about cessation efforts at work around the country. Over sixty people testified
at the Chicago hearing on December 3. The subcommittee will make recommendations
to Secretary Tommy Thompson at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

Javette Orgain, M.D. represents family physicians at
City Council Health Committee hearing in favor of a Smoke Free Chicago. On
December 10, Dr. Orgain testified about the serious toll that secondhand smoke
takes on our nonsmokers and our children. The committee will hold another
hearing on January 7 to listen to the opposition's testimony. The December 10
hearing attracted news coverage from every major Chicago media outlet.
