To the Editor:
Although you may only see the doctor for an annual checkup or an occasional bout with an illness, the decisions you make everyday play a major role in staying healthy.
Here are some choices you can make that will add years of good health to your life:
· Don't use any form of tobacco.
· Eat a healthy diet.
· Exercise regularly.
· Drink alcohol in moderation, if at all.
· Don't use illegal drugs.
· Practice safe sex.
· Use seat belts (and car seats for children) when riding in a car or truck.
· See your doctor regularly for preventive care.
Before you go in for that next check up, sit down and make a list of two or three things you would like talk about with your doctor. You don't need to have a disease, symptom or pain to bring up a topic with your family doctor.
Are you having trouble sleeping, or unable to get to bed early enough for a full night's sleep? Have you gained more than just a few pounds over the last year? Have you experienced unexplained mood swings? Has a change in your life created new levels of stress for you? Do you have questions about something you saw in the news?
Just spending an extra five minutes at the end of your checkup can make a huge difference in your future.
Talk to your family doctor if you have any concerns!
Sincerely,
YOUR NAME
