IAFP
joins Gov. Rod Blagojevich and Rep. Tom Cross to support Children's
Nutrition Health and Well-being
On December 18,
IAFP board member Frederic Leary, M.D. of Oak Park spoke on behalf
of IAFP at a special press conference at a school in River Grove.
House Minority Leader Rep. Tom Cross (R-Oswego) created the Children's
Nutritional Health and Well Being legislation as a comprehensive approach
to combating child obesity and promoting overall health for Illinois
Children. After the governor and Rep. Cross laid out their multi-faceted
approach, Dr. Leary discussed
the challenges facing family physicians in treating obesity.
He also talked about the programs that family physicians nationwide
are using to help stem the growing tide of obesity and the related
heath issues that come with being obese. IAFP is pleased to
see our leaders take a proactive approach to ensuring a healthier
future for our children.
